While many may visit Florida’s Treasure Coast for the beaches and endless waterfront adventures, some of Martin County’s hidden gems are its unique array of cultural venues. From cherished historic landmarks to eclectic downtowns, these sites are not only an integral part of the community culture but also showcase the area’s natural Florida charm.

Just outside the gates of Sailfish Point, the House of Refuge at Gilbert’s Bar is the oldest structure in Martin County. The building is the sole remaining of ten original houses built along Florida’s east coast to provide shelter for shipwreck survivors. The museum displays historical maritime artifacts, a model ship collection, shipwreck artifacts, and much more. Additionally, just 100 yards offshore, the shipwreck of Georges Valentine allows guests to dive or snorkel through one of only 12 underwater archaeological preserves within the state of Florida.
